How the Fruit of the Spirit Shapes My Life as a Mom and Business Owner
When I first became a mother, I had no idea just how deeply I’d have to dig into my soul to find peace in the chaos, joy in the mundane, or patience during another toddler tantrum at 7:15 AM. And when I launched my online boutique, The Church Girl Collective, those same challenges followed me, just in a different form.
Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship has shown me more clearly than ever that I cannot do this alone. Every day, I rely on something greater than my own strength. That something? The Holy Spirit, and the beautiful qualities He cultivates in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
These aren’t just virtues we talk about in Sunday School. These are lifelines. They’re the heartbeat of my home, and the foundation of my business.
Love First, Always
Being a mom has taught me that love isn’t always soft or easy. Sometimes it’s cleaning up crushed Goldfish for the fourth time in one morning, or staying up late to prep tomorrow’s orders when I really just want to be in bed. Love in business means showing up with integrity, even when no one’s watching. It means responding to a tough customer with compassion. It means treating each order like a gift to a real, living person (because it is).
And love is the first fruit for a reason. It fuels the rest.
Joy in the Ordinary
Joy used to feel like a special-occasion emotion. Now, I look for it in the small things: morning giggles from my littles, the way the sunlight hits the shipping station in my spare bedroom, the sweet message from a customer who found encouragement through a product. That’s joy—not surface-level happiness, but the deeper kind that comes from abiding in God.
When I designed the Fruit Drop collection, joy was front and center. I wanted every piece to feel lighthearted, full of life—because joy is meant to be shared.
Peace, Even in Chaos
There’s nothing peaceful about a full inbox and a toddler who just colored on the wall. But through prayer and presence, peace can still reign in the middle of it. I’ve learned to pause and breathe before reacting, to invite the Holy Spirit into my daily chaos.
That’s why I included the Fruit of the Spirit Bible Study in this new collection. It’s not about checking a box. It’s about slowing down enough to reflect, refocus, and invite God into the day-to-day mess.
Patience When It’s Not Easy
Patience is one of those fruits I wish grew faster! Whether I’m waiting on a supplier’s email, a toddler to nap, or just for life to calm down for five minutes, patience is my constant prayer. And I'll be vulnerable here, I can REALLY struggle with this one.
But I’ve learned that God doesn’t always remove the wait, He teaches us in it. Every time I rest in that, my patience muscle grows a little stronger. And as a business owner, it’s saved me from making rushed decisions or reacting from frustration.
Kindness & Goodness in Every Interaction
One of my personal business values is to always leave people better than I found them. Whether it’s through a note tucked in a package or a kind DM response, kindness matters. Not because it’s trendy or marketable, but because it’s what we’re called to.
Goodness is similar. It’s about integrity. It’s choosing the right thing, not the easy one. Even when it costs more. Even when no one sees. That’s the kind of business I want to build, one grounded in real goodness, not just good branding.
Faithfulness to the Call
There are days I wonder if I’m doing enough, or even doing it right. But when I feel stretched thin between my kids and my calling, I go back to the why. God planted this seed in my heart. And I trust that He’ll give me what I need to water it.
Faithfulness, to me, means showing up consistently. For my children. For my customers. For myself. It means trusting that what I’m building has purpose, even when growth feels slow.
Gentleness with Myself and Others
I used to be really hard on myself. If I didn’t get everything done, or if I lost my temper, I’d spiral into shame. But God is gentle with us. And I’m learning to mirror that.
I try to carry that same gentleness into my customer relationships, too. Into the way I write product descriptions, answer questions, or even handle mistakes. Gentleness doesn’t mean weakness. It means strength wrapped in grace.
Self-Control in the Scroll and the Schedule
Running an online business in a digital world means constant temptation: to compare, to hustle, to overcommit. Self-control helps me say no. No to distraction, no to overwork, no to trying to be everything to everyone.
It also helps me say yes, to boundaries, to rest, and to rhythms that honor my family and faith.
Introducing: The Fruit Drop
This heart, this rhythm of living rooted in the Spirit, is exactly what inspired our newest collection: The Fruit Drop. It’s small but mighty, designed to infuse everyday life with truth and joy.
-
The Fruit of the Spirit Board Book – A sweet, colorful introduction for little ones (and a great reminder for grownups, too). This one’s a bedtime staple in our house now.
-
By Their Fruits Foam Trucker Hat – A fun, wearable way to keep the message close. (And perfect for mom hair days, if you know you know.)
-
The Fruit of the Spirit Bible Study – A gentle, encouraging guide to help you go deeper—whether you have 20 minutes or 5.
None of these were created just to “sell.” They’re tools I use in my own home, with my own kids, in my own walk with God. That’s the heart of this whole business, to equip, encourage, and uplift others in real-life ways.
Final Thoughts: Bearing Fruit in Every Season
Motherhood and entrepreneurship are both full of growth spurts and pruning seasons. Some days feel fruitful, others feel dry. But through it all, God is at work, cultivating something eternal in us.
Whether you’re a mom, a maker, a teacher, a student—whatever season you’re in—I pray that the Fruit of the Spirit would become more than a verse on your wall. I pray it would become your breath, your posture, your way of showing up in the world.
Because fruit doesn’t grow overnight. But it does grow.
And when it does, it changes everything.
With love & grace,
Kimberly
